i'm a convert

i've gone out and bought a Mac..... this is certainly different. i miss my right-click option, especially when i am viewing a webpage and want to right click the link to open in a new window. i lost semagic too, for livejournal updating. i'm using xjournal and i just may like it better. i lost a couple of word games along the way and will be discovering soon what else isn't compatible. i don't know why i made the switch.....eager for something different, i guess. i get bored with the same old thing ;)
good weekend....went to the annual gridiron politician's roast last night and then popped in at the noble party for a bit (and a nice little end to my evening, leaving me grinning).
i've not been posting much lately, but i hate to make those drab ol i did this, i did that posts and there hasn't been much exciting in my life. i am looking forward to vacation!

Congrats! I think you'll find you enjoy your Mac, especially when you don't have to reboot when installing software, and the next time you hear about a virus spreading through the PC community. I know I love mine.

You may be able to get a two-button mouse, depending on your machine and OS. I have one on my iBook. Also, while there is software I'm sure you'll miss, there are Mac programs that are extremely cool.

I hope you enjoy playing with your new toy. :)

i am enjoying it, but i like the safety net of having my PC too. MS Access is one program i would really miss just too much.
i hadn't even thought about the lack of virus infections with a mac :)

...to the Light Side (or the Dark Side, if you ask Bill G.). I just made the switch myself, and I'm loving it. Ran into some of the same issues as you. I miss Semagic and I haven't settled on a Mac LJ client yet. But one thing I simply could not do without is my right mouse button and scroll wheel. I bought myself a Kensington 5-button mouse. Doesn't have to be special though, most USB mice will work with the Mac... Maybe even the one from your old PC. In the meantime, you can control-click instead of right-clicking.

Re: Welcome
but does the right click give you a menu? what is the point of right click with a mac? now that i am learning control click, i will be ok. i am not a mouse person at all. i would rather do things the keyboard way.
i am trying iJournal now..... will just have to keep experimenting with clients.

Re: Welcome
Sorry, I wasn't specific. Right-click is exactly the same as control-click. So you do get your context menu.

As to keyboard shortcuts... Well, there are some. Quite a few, actually. But with the Mac, the mouse is required. There are things you just can't do via the keyboard. For example, I can't figure out how to activate the menu with the keyboard.

Congrats - the Mac is indeed a different breed of computer, but very stable and extremely reliable. If I could run what I do on it w/o sucking up too much RAM through VMWare, I'd've gotten one too.

BTW - haven't forgotten about you, just have been getting slammed left and right with last minute things; will make it out there this week to lend a hand.

I have one of those wonderful optical mice with two buttons and a scroll bar. No little ball to get clogged with cat hair! And you will probably find that for many programs there are actually more keyboard shortcuts available than there are for the pc. I've been using macs since 1985 when I got my first little mac-in-a-box. (Smiling ruefully as I type this on an aging pc at the CAC because my phone line has been cut off.) Have fun with the Mac (oh, and I use Phoenix as my LJ client when I don't post directly from the site.)

i am learning all the keyboard shortcuts. can i shut down via keyboard? and how to i get to the drop down menu via keys?

As far as I know, those are two things you can't do with the keyboard on a mac. You do need the mouse for some things.

do not make you a "gypsy."
why do you call yourself after
those who have no clothes?

"gypsy" is pejorative. please don't perpetuate the stereotype. educate yourself on what it really means to be a "gypsy" in this world.
