it is always pleasant to walk outside work and be told "fuck you" by a 12 year old.
sometimes i have to remind myself how much i love my job.
today is a bad day.

i got it from a nine year old one day. It was in the school, after school, when he had no business being there and was soliciting cookies from our tutoring group while shouting various other obsceneties at me. (Yes, calling me a white bitch is going to win you that oatmeal raisin you're pandering for). At any rate, we both somehow ended up near what passes for the school office at the same time, so we were able to talk to the principal together. In the end he had no idea that anything he said was wrong. No one has ever bothered to teach this child how to speak to adults, or anyone else for that matter. The saddest part was how unsurprised i was. It wasn't the first time it has happened and i know it won't be the last.

not that i was surprised. but, this is a kid that comes in the center often. the thing is, today i sent him home. someone broke into the center and managed to get a fax machine, a printer and almost got the computer before the alarm system must have told him (they?) to go away. i am very much hoping it wasn't one of my kids.....

wandering does not make you a "gypsy."
why would you call yourself
after those who have no home?
long skirts and hoop earrings
do not make you a "gypsy."
why do you call yourself after
those who have no clothes?

"gypsy" is pejorative. please don't perpetuate the stereotype. educate yourself on what it really means to be a "gypsy" in this world.
