a haiku found for my marina friend

Inazuma ya yami-no-kata yuku goi-no koe

A flash of lightning;
Through the darkness goes
The scream of the night heron.

Lightning --
heron-cry
stabs darkness.

Lightning flickering
without sound . . .
How far away
the night-heron cries.

Heat-lightning streak --
through darkness pierces
the heron's shriek.

A lightning gleam:
into darkness travels
a night heron's scream.

wandering does not make you a "gypsy."
why would you call yourself
after those who have no home?
long skirts and hoop earrings
do not make you a "gypsy."
why do you call yourself after
those who have no clothes?

"gypsy" is pejorative. please don't perpetuate the stereotype. educate yourself on what it really means to be a "gypsy" in this world.
