more baby steps

i just ran out of water..... that is about 3 gallons of water per day that i use, not counting showers. i probably drink at least another gallon, but fill my water bottles at school and starbucks. a 15-20 gallon holding tank in the van should do just fine.
the average person uses about 80-100 gallons of water a day...that seems like so much. i bet if they did not have an endless supply from the tap folks would use less. i hate to go out and fill my water...i think it really is the only task i don't like, so it does make me much more aware of turning it off when i don't absolutely need it.

on the minimizing front, i have three giant bags for goodwill and am down to one set of utensils and one bowl. the top of my tiffin makes a plate so i gave away all my plates. i have my favorite coffee cup, but also two teacups. i like both my teacups and can't choose one! i rationalized that i might have someone in for tea, so should keep both :)

i found a frabosk on ebay... now if i can just find a presso for under $100 i can let go of the espresso machine. it is my only on-grid appliance. it just draws too much power for solar.

and a couple of advantages to life in the van that have recently crossed my mind:
i'll never forget anything at home (coffee cup, grocery bags, etc)
buying local is relative

wandering does not make you a "gypsy."
why would you call yourself
after those who have no home?
long skirts and hoop earrings
do not make you a "gypsy."
why do you call yourself after
those who have no clothes?

"gypsy" is pejorative. please don't perpetuate the stereotype. educate yourself on what it really means to be a "gypsy" in this world.
