Ah, I see you've got the link there.

The one-stop spot for gard student humor.

When I was a kid, my dad had a button that said "Feces on Theses." Wish I had it now.

Writing. MFA in Musicology, with a focus on jazz history.

I'm about 20 pages in on a second draft.

cool stuff! what are you writing about? i love hearing other folks' thesis topics :)
i dabble in ethnomusicology, particularly Roma music. it is an interesting field, but one that i am afraid would cause me to lose interest if i approached it academically, so i dabble!
are you going to the PCA conference? there are some incredible music topics this year. five panels on the grateful dead...gotta love it! we were so lucky to have IASPM here last year...what are they thinking, cincinnati? it should be here every year!

It started out as Afro-Cuban Clave in Early New Orleans jazz, but those patterns aren't really clave. They don't have the same ostenato function as in Afro-Cuban music. They're really more of a kind of freewheeling, improvisational vocabulary of rhythms.

Don't get me started, I gotta save this stuff for where it counts lol.

wandering does not make you a "gypsy."
why would you call yourself
after those who have no home?
long skirts and hoop earrings
do not make you a "gypsy."
why do you call yourself after
those who have no clothes?

"gypsy" is pejorative. please don't perpetuate the stereotype. educate yourself on what it really means to be a "gypsy" in this world.
