don't fear death

(no subject)

Press and Media will only be allowed to visit base camp with permission from the Government of Nepal. Liaison officers will have the right to inspect filming permits.
The Government of Nepal has the right to inspect all footage for censorship reasons.

soldiers will be posted at base camp and camp 2.

there were traffic jams last year and i just think this year is going to be quite dangerous with everyone going up the south side and possibly result in a season worse that 96. climbers having to get new permits and then rushing won't have time to acclimatize properly. if china doesn't make their summit date (not many do), it will delay the teams further or stop them all together. there isn't much of a window after may 10 for a summit bid....

the China Tibet Mountaineering Association issued a notice about the closing because of "concern of heavy climbing activities, crowded climbing routes and increasing environmental pressures will cause potential safety problems."

bah....

tibetan activists will be a thorn in their pretty torch bearing sides. they've issued a "request" to nepal to keep an eye out for pro-tibet protestors.

isn't it ironic that the carrying of a torch to represent sportsmanship is limiting, and putting in danger, athletes from around the world?

i believe mt. everest shouldn't belong to anyone.

so....who to watch this season?

The Kazakh National Team - plan to make the first traverse of lhotse and everest by ascent to lhotse from the south, down the south col and then ascent to everest. once they climb lhotse, the team will have climbed all the highest mountains in the world.

Daniela Teixeira - of portugal plans to be the seventh woman to summit without oxygen.

Min Bahadur Sherchan - 77 years old, from Nepal, will be the oldest if he makes the bid.

First Inclusive Women Sagarmatha Experdition, from nepal, not only exclusively a female team, but will employ only women too!

The Singapore Women's Everest Team - they have a great website!

Team Mallory - an entire canadian family...mom, dad, two sons and a daughter. go team!

Andrew Brash - at it again after giving up his bid to rescue the presumed dead Lincoln Hall in 06

Alan Arnette - the road back to everest for alzheimer's. i've followed Alan for years and i know he will make it this year!

good luck to all, may the goddess Chomolungma smile upon you :)
