Words of Wisdom

Each of us has responsibility for all humankind. It is time for us to think of other people as true brothers and sisters and to be concerned with their welfare, with lessening their suffering. Even if you cannot sacrifice your own benefit entirely, you should not forget the concerns of others. We should think more about the future and benefit of all humanity.

Also, if you try to subdue your selfish motives--anger, and so forth--and develop more kindness and compassion for others, ultimately you yourself will benefit more than you would otherwise. So sometimes I say that the wise selfish person should practice this way. Foolish selfish people are always thinking of themselves, and the result is negative. Wise selfish people think of others, help others as much as they
can, and the result is that they too receive benefit.

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.

lost in email

i am trying desperately to catch up on emails. i have absolutely no patience for the stuff. i have good intentions...i mean to answer it. sometimes i feel like i have all these little people sitting in my inbox, bumping into each other trying to find the letters on my keyboard. i seem to think that if i read the email i have acknowledged it, as if i communicated my thoughts in reply via some cyber ESP and i don't have to hit the reply button at all. i make things worse in trying to organize it in folders by people, by importance, by business, by personal and by "who cares". and every time i whittle them down to one screen scroll, i promise myself i will start answering them as they come in and not get so far behind again. yeah, right.
then there are all these personal ad correspondences....do i make a tacky boilerplate to tell them all i have been taken out of the lost and found box and claimed? or do i just delete them? put them in a folder so i don't see them? sell them to other seekers? turn them into a tacky adult bookstore novel?
