750 ml is 3/4 l is.....

there are many, many times i wish i hadn't been born an american. immediately to mind is the disadvantage of growing up in a country that shuns the rest of the world's units of measurements - the metric system. let's put aside the fact that i am already mathematically challenged. i have to relate these measurements to drinking bottles when i cook.... a small water bottle is 50 cl, a diet coke is 500 ml. my soup packet calls for 3/4 liter.... that, in my mind, is a diet coke and a half.
i'll make soup when i finish my diet coke.....

down with metrics, we don't want foreign rulers ...
I agree that we should have more metrics here, but due to the idiocracy that is the general public, we don't.

Hope this can help some:

It doesn't help you now, but you may be comforted to know that the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum for Math (grades 3 - 8) now includes teaching children to convert metric to U.S. units and vice versa.

linda and i were just talking about how they did that when we were kids in school and then just brushed it aside. the thing is we learn to convert and then we forget. i am not sure many of us ever really learn to even gauge the distances, weights, etc.
i am glad to know that familiarity with it is at least required again in school! i just think we should adopt it..... just more evidence of our isolationist attitude.
but i like stones.... using stones i dont' weigh much at all!

Neither with kilos - kilo conversion is 45% of a pound (100 lbs = 45 kg).

That's good it's finally come around. I had learned it some back in the day and know some quick and dirty conversions for some things.

Metrics might have disappeared for most of the US but in the medical field we use it all the time.
The conversions I find that I use most often outside of the hospital area
1 lb = 2.2 Kg
(I love this one because it makes it look like I weigh 1/2 of what I do)

for small volumes
5 ml-1 tsp
30ml=1 ounce.

wandering does not make you a "gypsy."
why would you call yourself

do not make you a "gypsy."
why do you call yourself after
those who have no clothes?

"gypsy" is pejorative. please don't perpetuate the stereotype. educate yourself on what it really means to be a "gypsy" in this world.
