Ahoj :)

today was absolutely beautiful. was able to wander about without layers and my coat. after being all bundled up since i arrived, it felt like freedom. i spent almost the entire day tracking down a hotplate for my room (we aren't supposed to have them IN the room, of course). found one. also bought a comforter and a little wooden sailboat to brighten up my room and remind me of home just a bit. i've had a hotplate....there was one outside the room in the common little area i share with my neighbors. i have been using it, bringing it in my room to cook and returning it as soon as it is cool. it vanished friday. i asked one of the girls about it this morning and she told me it was in their room and is theirs. well..... i didn't know. the info about the dorm says the rooms share a little fridge and a hotplate. when i went down to ask it turns out the hotplate is in the shared kitchen on the floor below me. we are not allowed to have hotplates in the room. so, apparently, they can't share their rule breaking with me. no worries, i am perfectly capable of breaking rules all by myself.
i have volunteered to teach english at a local ngo. i am looking forward to it. also, my czech teacher recommended me to one of the schools she teaches at, which would be a paid position. pretty cool. i read much about people struggling to find paying teaching jobs here and one knocked right on my door. :)
i have learned my way around the metro and tram system and am pretty damn proud. point a to point b without getting lost! if you know me at all, that is a really big accomplishment.

wandering does not make you a "gypsy."
why would you call yourself
after those who have no home?
long skirts and hoop earrings
do not make you a "gypsy."
why do you call yourself after
those who have no clothes?

"gypsy" is pejorative. please don't perpetuate the stereotype. educate yourself on what it really means to be a "gypsy" in this world.
