Because of you, I would now only say it the grammatically correct way.

"is' just comes naturally....
imagine, points off on an otherwise perfect research project because i singularized data.....

I say "is" even though I know it's wrong AND I'm the biggest grammar pedant I know! I can't explain this odditiy.

With "data are" there is an awkward and unavoidable glottal stop between the two words (unless you insert that dreaded intrusive "r", which sounds even worse). With "data is" you can glide a little more elegantly between the two medial vowels.

Or not......

Qualify it....."all of the data is"

all of the data are.....

bluh. actually it sounds better with "all of", but you can't always use that. the sentences in question are:
Although the data is presented.... change to "data are presented"
and
The data distinctively shows a relationship.... change to "data distinctively show"

i am beginning to train myself to plural data (who uses datum?), but it is good to know the consensus is singular structure. :)

"gypsy" is pejorative. please don't perpetuate the stereotype. educate yourself on what it really means to be a "gypsy" in this world.
